Programs I’m using in day-to-day work
All of the apps are configured to be minimalist yet extensible, so my user interface is very clean, without many toolbars, pop-ups, etc. These small steps help me gain better focus and force me to use shortcuts.
I don't skimp on software. If there is a tool that could accelerate my work, I'm ready to pay for it. But it doesn't mean that I'm spending my money without control. Most of the paid tools I use are provided by Setapp.
Operating System
I’ve started like everyone, from Windows. Then I spend over 2 years on many Linux distros. In 2022 I was forced to use MacOS. Since that time I’ll never go back to any other system.
Arc Browser
In the past I used Brave. But Arc is totally different from any other browser. It’s based on Chromium and is fast, minimalist, and has a rich command palette. Fits perfectly with my setup. It’s still in beta. Reach me and I’ll send you an invitation 😉
IDE
My prime IDE is Cursor AI. I hid all UI elements which were useless for me. So my Cursor is minimalistic and fast, without any distractions. Also, it forces me to use shortcuts. I also use many extensions to integrate most of the tools required for daily work in one place. I’m using Sonnet 3.5 (new one).
List of most important extensions:
- DB Code - I’m using the paid version. Good for quick editing and preview of DB state
- Code Spell Checker - never make typo again
- Turbo Console Log - debug like a pro 😎
- One Dark Pro - theme
- GitHub Pull Requests and Issues - I’m raising PR and doing reviews locally, in my IDE
- Thunder Client - Postman/Insomnia replacement
Raycast
Spotlight replacement. Raycast is giving me quick access to many utils without losing context. Most powerful with extensions:
- Google Translator,
- Query OpenAI GPT-3,
- Bitwarden,
- Spotify,
- Confetti,
- Generate meme,
- Emoji picker,
ChatGPT with Model GPT-4o
I’m not just bumping hype around AI. I’m using it to accelerate my daily work.
Other useful tools
- 👨💻 Warp.dev - with many built-in extensions and features like AI search and command prompt,
- 📸 Clean Shot X - Making screenshots with explanations or recording screens/GIFs is part of my everyday job. I didn’t know how good it could be. Clean Shot X is full of handy features, one of them is built-in OCR, which is very, very accurate,
- 📋 Paste.io - even simple copy-pasting could be accelerated. Paste is able to remember many items from the clipboard, searching through them, batch copping and pasting. Everything is in sync with iPhone,
- Rize - Nobody forces me to track my stats. I’m doing it because I have nice preview of what I was doing and it helps me remain focused. I don’t want to break the stats by distractions 🙂 It’s expensive, but the auto tracking focus sessions and breaks works perfectly and UX is great
